What a Memorial Day to remember. Turn on the TV, listen to the AM radio, open the newspaper and all you see is WILLIE. It looks like each and every journalist is overanalyzing the current state of the Mets, and rightfully pointing the finger at Willie for not turning around the team that is the proud owner of the worst meltdown in sports history. I’ll be the first to say that Willy needs to go as his lackluster attitude isn’t a good fit for this team that Omar Minaya has assembled. That being said I think his job is most definitely on thin ice and if the Mets don’t start winning this week on their homestand, I think there are going to be alot of changes made to light a fire under this teams behind. Johan Santana (5-3) takes the mound tonight against the Marlins’ Andrew Miller (4-3) and will hopefully give the Mets the spark that they need to turn things around. Johan won’t be able to do it himself though as the Mets bats need to wake up and Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran can’t make bonehead plays that will cost the game like they did last night for Mike Pelfrey.
Random Thought: I love how the Official New York Mets website today is boasting that Aaron Heilman is locating his pitches better of late for the Mets and is coming out of his slump. What a load of horse dung. He had no pressure on him whatsoever last night as the game was obviously out of hand for this Mets team that is 1-18 this season when trailing after six innings. Put Heilman in a pressure situation tonight and I’ll bet the farm that he faulters. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080527&content_id=2779113&vkey=news_nym&fext=.jsp&c_id=nym
